In 1959, 'Disc' began a scheme based on awarding Silver Discs for sales of over 250,000 units. To claim an award the record company had to notify the editor of 'Disc'. Only four record companies claimed Silver Discs in 1959, including Columbia and Decca. When 'Disc' expired in the 70's, the British Phonographic Industry claimed the presentation of awards that has changed little over the years.

In 1961, Cliff got a Silver Disc from EMI marking sales of a quarter of a million albums, only the second such award ever made for:
"Cliff" (1959)
"Cliff Sings" (1959)
"Me and my Shadows" (1960)
"Listen to Cliff" (1961).

On November 4th, 1961, "21 today" becomes Cliff's first chart-topping album.

"The young ones" (1961/1962) sold a million copies, Cliff's first album to do so.

"Summer holiday" (1963) sold a million copies, passing the million mark before the previous one, which was "The young ones".

"Wonderful life" (1964) Cliff's third big film musical hit No.2
and achieved a Gold Disc for sales of a million copies.

"Cliff's hit album" (1963) Cliff's first hit compilation hit No.2
and achieved a Silver Disc for sales of half a million.

"Aladdin" (1965) hit No.13 and won a Gold Disc.

Did you know?... that there were 'limited edition' 2-LP sets of Summer holiday and Wonderful life full soundtrack recordings given to cast members only. They are now valued between £350-£500.

"Kinda Latin" a No.9 hit in the Spring of 1966 is a
superb Cliff album. It spent 12 weeks on the album chart.

"Finders keepers" Cliff's fourth film musical was ranked the
Top Film Musical of 1966 in the list of the year's 'Top grossing films'. The soundtrack of the film just missed the top five.
It was a No.6 hit, spending 18 weeks on the album chart.

In late 1969 "Sincerely" contained two songs written by
backing musician Terry Britten, who would later go on to write
many of Cliff's big hit singles in the 70's and 80's.

Cliff's best selling album between 1970 - 1975 was
"Tracks 'n' Grooves". It contained songs written by some of
the leading songwriters of the time: Neil Diamond, Sonny Bono,
Neil Sedaka, Raymond Froggatt and Hank Marvin.

"Take me high" was Cliff's fifth film musical and
the soundtrack album was a chart hit in 1974.
